Yellow recorder belt homework

Greetings –
THis week you should see a paper come home from the music room. THis was your child’s attempt at creating a song for their recorder using La, do re and mi.

You should…
1. look at their work an have them complete any steps that are not done
2. have them play (or sing!) their song for you
3. sign the paper
4. have them bring it back

If they want to earn a "belt" for their recorder they need…
– to have a white belt already (they can still test for me on that one)
– to have a 3 or 4 in the "playing" box
– put the paper on my desk (not in the folder like ususal)

If they want to re-play any of the songs (white or yellow) to earn a belt they can...
– send me a video via email
– login to www.classdojo.com and record their video
– come play for me at the end of the day at 3:45pm .

Please let me know if you have any questions. I have attached the paper to this email in case you don’t see it come home. Thanks as ususal for all your help at home reinforcing these concepts.

White Belt Recorder Composition

Greetings –
You should have seen a music assignment come home on friday (or today) called "white belt recorder composition". This was an opportunity for students to show me what they can play on their recorders. To do this, they needed to use previously learned concepts of pitch and rhythm as well as the new information of how to play the recorder with articulation and correct fingers.

Please listen to your student play their song, sign the paper and then send it back with them for credit.

If your student wishes to earn an actual "belt" for playing their song, they must:
1. complete playing their song into www.classdojo.com (it should not be listed as a "draft")
2. return the paper to my desk

Thanks for everything you do to help reinforce their musical learning at home. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Recorder order & choir Application

Greetings –
Last week you should have received 2 forms from me: a recorder order and a choir application.

We have begun our study of the recorder in class using our "arms" to practice how to play and use the proper air. Within the next few weeks we will begin using the actual instruments to reinforce concepts that we have been studying here in class.

Jefferson Choir:
The Jefferson choir is beginning on Feb 6th at 8:30am. This is an opportunity for ANY student in 4th or 5th grade with a love of making music, to get a little extra. Please know that this is NOT required and that by singing up you are committing to 12 weeks of rehearsal as well as a concert on May 2nd. All you need to do is turn in the completed application and you are in!! Please let me know if you have any questions.

I am attaching both forms to this email and will still take either one until the end of this week.

Music assignment coming home

Greetings!
This week you should see a homework assignment come home from the music room. This is a rhythmic composition assignment where students needed to use previously learned information as well as the new rhythm of four 16th notes to complete. This was used as a summative assessment for 16th notes. After the work was performed with claps, we took our compositions to the xylophones and improvised a melody using the rhythm we wrote.

Please:
1. have your child perform it for you with light claps and rhythm language
2. sign the paper
3. make sure your student returns it to the music room for credit.

Thanks so much for your help with instruction reinforcement at home. Even this small chance to perform what they have written for you at home make a big impact.

I am also attaching a copy of the assessment to this email in case you do not see it come home. Please let me know if you have any questions.
